Shake & Stir Theatre Co, Queensland's freshest professional youth theatre company has officially launched its 2010 school touring season and is set to be the year's MOST WANTED theatre-in-education program.
In three years Shake & Stir have created loyal relationships with schools from across Queensland. To offer the schools exactly what they asked for in 2010, the three youthful Artistic Directors (Ross Balbuziente, Nelle Lee & Nick Skubij) went straight to the principal's office when it came to devising next year's touring program. The company asked teachers what they wanted and after collecting their feedback, the MOST WANTED season was created.
In 2010 Shake & Stir will again tour nine productions across Queensland and for the first time, interstate. They are bringing back some of their most popular productions, some of them revamped and some brand-spankin' new.
The 2010 MOST WANTED season for secondary schools includes:
- Shake Up! — Shake & Stir's most popular show back due to overwhelming demand. With an updated script - this will demystify Shakespeare.
- Bard-Wired — a brand-new production that explores Shakespeare's themes and examines varied character interpretations.
- Romeo & Juliet in 50 mins — back by popular demand. This production is short, sweet and complete.
- Macbeth: Final Cut — a comprehensive retelling of this infamous tragedy incorporating cinematic techniques to compare Macbeth on stage vs. film.
- I Loathe Thee — re-worked in 2010 to present a selection of Shakespeare's ‘love' scenes utilising the techniques of another theatrical giant, Bertolt Brecht.
- I Crave My Space & Other Cyber Adventures — a recently released performance dealing with cyber bullying, social withdrawal and communication in the technological era.
Shake & Stir will also be offering a series of theatre master classes, continue their popular after school drama classes and take up residency at schools for intensive workshops.
Bookings have already opened for Shake & Stir's 2010 season and so far, it looks set to be another exciting and busy year for the co.
