The biggest little theatre festival in the world, Short and Sweet, features ten-minute plays from writers around the world, performed with local actors and directors.
The festival takes place throughout January and February at the Newtown Theatre and NIDA’s Parade Theatre, with a Grand Final at NIDA’s Parade Theatre on Saturday 13 March. Participants have a chance to be selected for Shorter+Sweeter Theatre – the touring arm of the company that tours Australia and overseas. The event has helped launch the careers of countless actors, writers and directors and this year passes an astounding milestone - 1,000 Australian plays on the stage!
Short and Sweet has been going since 2002 and has launched the careers of a few notable young actors, writers and directors. The festival features around 150 plays each season and this year they staged their 1000th play. The Short and Sweet motto? “A more creative world, ten minutes at a time.”
