In 2010, St Martins Youth Arts Centre is celebrating 30 years of providing hands-on performing arts opportunities to the young people of Victoria.
Officially out of its 20’s on March 18th, St Martins plans to reconnect with past staff and alumni throughout 2010, culminating in a spectacular gala event at the end of October this year.
Like many offices and homes, St Martins suffered severe flood damage after Melbourne’s freak March 6th storm and as a result had to relocate the entire office to the Irene Mitchell Studio.
”These circumstances demonstrate the inherent resilience of St Martins,” commented Artistic Director Sarah Austin, “as the case has been for the past 30 years, we will always be here to support young artists, no matter what difficulties we may face”.
The birthday celebrations kicked off with a relaxed get together for past staff and board members in the Irene Mitchell Studio, funnily enough next to the recently relocated office.
St Martins urges past members, employees, board members, devotees and fans to re-connect either by contacting St Martins directly or registering details through the ALUMNI REGISTER on the website. An integral part of the Australian arts industry, St Martins is fondly remembered by many as the place where they first stepped onto a stage, where their artistic passion was ignited, where they found their voice and made life long friends, so be prepared for a big year of celebration.
