Tantrum Theatre has launched its 2011 season, one which promises an array of new and exciting works and a year which will also mark Tantrum's 35th anniversary. Tantrum will be celebrating with more workshops, innovative programs, fun activities and fascinating performances than ever before.
 
Tantrum has had an amazing history unfold since its first afternoon drama workshop in 1976. Since then, the company hasn't lost its passion for nurturing and developing the young artists of Newcastle, or its commitment to providing theatrical innovation to the people of the Hunter region.
 
At the launch, the appointment of Rachel Jackett as Tantrum's new Associate Director was announced.

"[I am] excited to have this amazing opportunity to work with Tantrum and its young people as we expand into new creative territories," said Rachel.

Tantrum's Artistic Director Brendan O'Connell also announced that he will be stepping down from his position in February 2011.

"Brendan's two-and-a-half years with Tantrum has been a very productive time. His artistic vision has taken performances to people and places not before visited, a legacy of work that will forever remain in the hearts and minds of Novocastrians," Tantrum's Chair, Terence Mahony, remarked at the launch.
 
"On behalf of the Board and Tantrum members, I wish him every success in his career and we thank him for setting such a solid foundation for the company and we now look forward to a new era, where we can build on those foundations, and continue to offer our members and audiences a range of performance experiences."

Tantrum's first production of 2011 will be Shakespeare in the Park: As You Like It which is being adapted and directed by Carl Young and is produced in collaboration with Newcastle L!vesites. Season One of As You Like It will take place in Richley Reserve (Blackbutt), 4-6 February; Season Two will be at Pacific Park (Newcastle East), 10-13 February. Tickets will soon be on sale through Ticketek.
