Pulse – Annual Education Performance Project

This project is a highly anticipated fixture in the calendars of Tasmanian secondary schools with a dance focus. The project began 13 years ago, helping develop the technical skills and knowledge of secondary students and teachers who want to know more about contemporary dance practice.

Workshops: Pulse will begin with special school workshops conducted throughout the state from March 1-26 with dancer/choreographers Sarah Fiddaman and Malcolm McMillan. Workshops are suited for grades 8-12. Participants in the workshop series, who are in grade 10 or above, are then invited to audition for a place in the performance company. Bookings for these workshops are essential and to maximise your chances of receiving your preferred date please call or email the office by Monday February 15. The cost is $170.00 per workshop.

Performance Bookings: The performance will then tour the state, from April 26-30, featuring the talents of selected young dancers who with Sarah and Malcolm will explore the diverse range of the meaning of the word Pulse. This show is appropriate for students of all ages. Book in early for both the workshops and performances as this is normally a sell out!

Suitability: Grades 4-12
Launceston: Earl Arts Centre, April 26 at 7pm and April 27 at 11am & 1pm
Devonport: DECC, April 28 at 1pm & 7pm
Hobart: Collegiate PAC, April 30 at 11am, 1pm & 7pm

Those interested can also find out about the Tasdance School of Performing Arts (TSPA), a Launceston based opportunity for students and teachers after hours for 10 weeks each term. TSPA offers classes in Contemporary Technique and Street Jam Funk for students aged four-adult at all levels of experience. Download the brochure at www.tasdance.com.au, or phone (03) 6331 6644 – plus keep an eye out for Heart Matters, a Tasdance/TSO production of new works by Graeme Murphy and Chrissie Parrott, occurring later in the year.
