The Gatekeeper

In March, Terrapin will conduct a second creative development for its 2010 school touring show, ‘The Gatekeeper’. The show is a comic tale about those that stand at the gate and those that want to get through, and plays with these ideas in a comically told story about two characters that find themselves trying to get past each other. What should be a straightforward everyday event unravels into a world of ridiculous situations, involving slapstick, clowning, puppets, magic and acrobatics. The audience will be transfixed as the set transforms in front of them, changing shapes and morphing with animation projections, merging real puppets and objects with moving images, using Terrapin’s innovative digital puppetry techniques. The creative team of Director Frank Newman, Designer Hanna Pärssinen, Composer Matthew Fargher, Animators Stefan Le Mottee and Matt van Rooijen and Performers Sam McMahon and Jeff Michel will lock themselves away and workshop ideas and concepts for the show.

When the Pictures Came

The rehearsals for Terrapin’s collaboration with the Children’s Art Theatre of China, ‘When the Pictures Came’, commence in April in Shanghai. A team of Australian creative artists, led by Frank Newman, will make the move to Shanghai for two months to develop and rehearse the show in preparation for its premiere at the end of May.
