State Theatre Company of SA in association with the Adelaide Festival Centre’s Australian Stories program presents The 7 Stages of Grieving; a landmark work written by two of Australia’s leading Indigenous theatre artists, Wesley Enoch and Deborah Mailman.

Through a unique union of traditional Aboriginal storytelling and Western theatrical forms, we encounter a series of stunning and moving episodes in the life of an Aboriginal 'Everywoman'. With its indomitable sense of humour and a wonderful tenderness, The 7 Stages of Grieving opens the heart and puts some of the big issues such as grief and reconciliation under the microscope.

State Theatre Company’s production will be directed by former Artistic Director Rosalba Clemente, designed by Morag Cook and will star Lisa Flanagan.

“I love this iconic work. It captivates the heart, mind and soul. Full of raw and beautiful emotion, it is as gut wrenchingly funny as it is moving. Audiences of all ages always talk of it as a quintessential Australian theatre experience,” Director Rosalba Clemente said.

“I urge you to come along and see the remarkable performer that Lisa Flanagan is. I can't wait to work with her fiery, luminous talent!”

The 7 Stages of Grieving will take audiences on a poignant emotional journey through love, anger and loss, showing us that, despite our race, compassion and understanding are the greatest strengths against adversity.

The production will have a short season in the Space Theatre at the Adelaide Festival Centre before touring to outer metropolitan and regional centres as part of the Company’s 2010 Education Program.
