The Allure of Paradise

posted Friday, 1 Oct

Tracks Dance Company brings together some of Darwin's best-loved choreographers and dancers to explore what paradise means to them. A collection of short stories set in dance, The Allure of Paradise tells four local tales: the freshly arrived newcomer; the local boy who returns after escaping "down south"; the Balinese woman who trades one paradise for another; and a ride on the tourist trail.

It features performances by Desak Putu Warti Stretton, Gary Lang, Joanna Noonan, Jess Devereux, Julia Gray, Kristy Rickert and members of the Grey Panthers. Audiences will be taken on a journey from light-hearted quips to sombre moments, from elegant reflections to the downright cheeky. Framed by images of paradise supplied by the Darwin community and a commentary delivered by Tracks' Artistic Directors, Tim Newth and David McMicken, The Allure of Paradise is a performance to share and celebrate this place many call home.

So don your best pair of thongs, re-wrap your sarong, grab a green can from the bar and escape the city life for air-conditioned comfort in the Browns Mart Theatre (12 Smith St, Darwin.) All tickets are $15 for the preview Wednesday, November 10 at 7pm, or $25 full, $22 Friends, $15 concession for the season: Saturday 13, Wednesday 17 - 20 at 7pm, Sunday 14 and Sunday 21 at 5pm.
