Hidden Republic is a powerful and symbolic collaboration between Indigenous company Black Arm Band and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. The resulting score celebrates culture and tradition, envisages hope and acknowledges resistance, delving deep into the songbook of Indigenous music.
"The Black Arm Band reminds me of the long struggle and the long journey we've been on. 30 years ago we were marching for justice down the city streets, but now we're telling our stories in the concert halls," says Archie Roach from The Black Arm Band.
There is only one chance to see two of Australia's most celebrated musical forces come together for the first time. Regarded with international acclaim, the Black Arm Band's performances have been cited as "an uplifting experience that said more about black and white solidarity than a million parliamentary speeches" (The West Australian).
Black Arm Band features many of Australia's most influential and iconic talents; renowned artists such as Archie Roach, Jimmy Little, Dan Sultan, Shane Howard, Lou Bennett and Tasmanian born Dewayne Everettsmith. They will be accompanied by a 34 piece ensemble from the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, including a formidable seven piece jazz section, under the guidance of Steven Richardson.
