Students and teachers at Charleville State School, Charleville State High School and Cunnamulla State School were in a for a dramatic treat when Queensland Theatre Company actors Peter Cook and Amy Humpreys started their nine week artists-in-schools residency in early September.

The actors facilitated more than 50 workshops in clowning, acting techniques, script writing, voice work and devising new work at the schools over two months. Students got the opportunity to learn new skills through drama that encouraged them to consider the role of theatre, performance and storytelling in their everyday lives.

All students involved will get the opportunity to present their new skills at special performances. Primary school students will be performing at the Cultural Fusion event on October 22 and 23 and high school students will have performances in their communities after the workshops have concluded in early November.

This project is supported by the Australia Council for the Arts, the Australian Government’s arts funding and advisory body, and by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland who have provided $90,000 funding for the project.

The project will build on Queensland Theatre Company’s previous artist-in-residencies which have run since 2004 at Western Cape College in Cape York and had participants from Aurukun, Weipa and Mapoon.
