Are you a Melbourne-based arts worker who's tired of twiddling their thumbs? Well listen up- YPAA are holding their next Youth Arts Market in Victoria this November and need a local helping hand.
Young People and the Arts Australia is the national peak body for practitioners and
organisations who engage children and young people in the arts. They have a solid reputation for delivering nationally significant events for a diversity of practitioners working in the arts and across multiple art and cultural forms.
Over the last two years YPAA has developed a model of showcasing youth arts companies,
providing professional development for freelancer and company members and providing a
platform for stronger networking across state and territories, and the YPAA national member
network. This model has come to be known as the Youth Arts Market- a term used to
describe a mixture of events, activities, workshops and showcases that happen in capital cities.
The first ever Youth Arts Market was delivered in 2008 in partnership with Sydney Theatre
Company and over 15 NSW organisations, which was then known as the Youth Engagement Showcase. In 2009, YPAA hosted the first ever QLD Youth Arts Market held at the Brisbane
Powerhouse featuring over 24 companies from across the state.
Now in 2010 YPAA will engage their members across Victoria, while also engaging potential members, the broader arts sector, government, non-arts industries and national presenters, producers and festivals.
However the YPAA office is situated in Brisbane, which means they need a local Producer based in Melbourne who can coordinate the event.
The Vic Youth Arts Market (VYAM) is a project that has been developed through a consultative
process with members of the Vic Youth Arts sector. This project will endeavor to do 4 things:
