Bundy Busk was a part of the inaugural CRUSH Festival, which celebrates regional arts throughout the month of October.
Andrea Bax, the Youth Development Officer with Bundaberg Regional Council, came up with the idea to use busking as a means of engaging young people under 25 and the community together in a positive way. Getting the community involved with voting for the winners proved an integral part of the event’s success.
Andrea collaborated with local businesses to provide busking sites for the event. This provided businesses with the opportunity to show their support of emerging young talent, with an added benefit of increased walk by traffic in the area. The event also showed that the main street area of Bundaberg can be a vibrant, entertaining and engaging space.
The event was successful in increasing the positive image of young people in the Bundaberg community. Channel 7 News and the NewsMail provided media support prior to and post event, with a front page picture and a television news report on the Monday following the event.
As a result of Bundy Busk, one young muso was approached to be a part of the closing event of the CRUSH festival at the end of October.
