2010 will mark the 12th year of Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre’s summer intensive training program, Stomping Ground. This annual three week course introduces artists to a range of physical theatre disciplines including the Suzuki Method, Butoh, Viewpoints and Contact Improvisation.
The aim of Stomping Ground is to provide a solid basis in these disciplines focusing on developing the performer's physical, vocal and ensemble skills. It is a journey of transformation, both personally and professionally. Participants begin the new year by refining their goals for 2010, shaping their craft, and meeting fellow artists with similar interests and beliefs.
The course will be led by Zen Zen Zo’s Artistic Directors Lynne Bradley and Simon Woods and feature talented contact improvisation performer and teacher, Alejandro Rolandi, as guest artist.
The first session will take place on Sunday January 3, 2010 from 6 to 9pm. From Monday January 4 the daily schedule (Monday to Friday) will be as follows:
10:00 - 10:30 Warm Up, Conditioning & Yoga
10:30 - 12:45 Suzuki Actor Training Method, Butoh or Contact Improvisation
12:45 - 1:45 Lunch/DVD Presentations
1:45 - 3:45 Viewpoints
3:45 - 4:00 Warm Down
People interested in Stomping Ground need to be aware that this training course will be physically rigorous and mentally challenging. Participants should be in good health and prepared to work hard. No previous physical theatre experience is necessary. Due to the demanding nature of the course, all participants must be at least 18 years of age.
Costs involved are $740 + GST for the 3-week summer intensive. An Early Bird Rate of $690 applies to bookings that are fully paid by November 30 this year. There is a 10% discount for returning Stomping Ground participants. Terms and conditions apply.
“Stomping Ground was a boot-camp of body and mind, a wake-up call to creativity and a challenge to personal courage. The program, the directors, and the company are 100% professional and theatrically inspirational. Do it!”
Sue Jowsey, New Zealand Educator
"The reputation and intensity of Zen Zen Zo's training methods are agonisingly superior to anything I have ever done. As an improviser, structure is essential, and the ritualised and rigorous processes of Stomping Ground fed my spontaneity and creativity."
Rea Dennis, Community Theatre Artist
