Expression of interests are now open for a small team of professional and emerging directors to direct short works for a new theatre festival, The Colour Blind Project. The festival is a 2 week season of new Australian works, being performed by an integrated ensemble of talented actors at The Tap Gallery Theatre, Darlinghurst.

The Colour Blind Project is a festival celebrating independent, innovative performance for the theatre in order to showcase the diverse pool of multicultural talent in Australia. It aims to change who and what we see on the Australian stage and reflect truthfully our contemporary Australian society.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
Each director will be responsible for creatively coordinating their work. With the ongoing support and assistance of the festival directors, production manager and stage managers, the Director will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating and running rehearsals
  • Liaising with the creative team to uphold the integrity of the work
  • Coordinating the design elements of the work (incl. costuming, set, props, lighting etc)
  • Aiding in the audition process
  • The creative components of production week up until opening night

The director will be well supported in this festival. The Colour Blind Project team will ensure that the production is well resourced, administered and publicised so that the director can really focus on their creative duties.

Experience/Skills
The key things are passion and commitment – a creative vision and the ability to coordinate your own work independently using their own initiative. Some previous experience in directing for theatre is preferable.
