HG Nelson once described Geoff Goodfellow as a “tough nut.” In reality, he is a hugely celebrated Australian poet and he is about to shake up Geelong.

On Sunday September 4th, Geoff will be appearing at Courthouse ARTS to talk poetry, writing and how he beat cancer.

Geoff will read some punchy verse from his new book Waltzing with Jack Dancer and discuss his life, with young Curator Stephanie Tribe and Courthouse ARTS Artistic Director, Ross Mueller.

“Geoff’s writing isn’t just for fans of poetry – he writes for real people and straight talkers. As a writer he shoots from the lip, and I can’t wait to see him read.” Says Mueller.

“Anyone who has been affected by cancer will no doubt be moved by Waltzing with Jack Dancer.”

Goodfellow has been performing his work in gaols and on building sites for over twenty years. Waltzing with Jack Dancer will be his ninth published collection. His poetry draws on his upbringing and the Australia’s public health system. His background in carpentry and boxing make for “honest, hard-life” poetry with broad appeal.
An afternoon with Geoff Goodfellow is presented by Courthouse ARTS, Melbourne Writer’s festival, Barwon Health and the SUB Artist Run Initiative. It will be one of the first events to take place in the newly-renovated Courthouse ARTS building and so tickets are selling fast.

The event will take place on Sunday, September 4th at 2:30pm, at the newly-renovated Courthouse ARTS building on Little Malop Street.

Tickets are $10, or $5 for Courthouse ARTS Members. Bookings can be made on the web at www.courthouse.org.au (click on whats on. Booking fees apply) or by calling 03 5272 4689
