Emerging Queensland singer songwriter, 16 year old Hannah Karydas launches her new EP, WRITE, at a FREE event at Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s (QPAC) Cascade Court on Saturday 23 July 2011.
Recorded and produced by Powderfinger’s Ian Haug at his ‘Airlock Studios’ in 2010, WRITE is Hannah’s second EP since she launched her career in 2008. Ian says the seven track EP showcases Hannah’s versatile song writing talent and impressive vocal style.
Hannah began her career in Cairns in 2008 and became an active participant in the city’s vibrant independent music scene attracting significant amounts of attention from local media and venues alike.
After winning a ‘highly commended’ in the 2010 Q Song Awards, Hannah moved to Brisbane and continued spellbinding crowds with her stunning voice and elegant songs.
Hannah has performed across a wide range of musical events in Brisbane, including but not limited to, Fete de la Musique and was a finalist in the 2010 fRETfEST singer songwriter program where she performed at the Woodford Folk Festival.
“When I first met Hannah and heard her play I was really taken by her poise and confidence. Her EP WRITE really showcases her melodic sense and pop ideals. When you hear what she has to offer her age becomes irrelevant.
“She’s not just good for her age, she's just damn good and I am excited to hear what she has in store for us in the years to come,” said Haug.
Mixing the energy and honesty that comes with youth and the song writing traditions of yesteryear, Hannah’s music draws influence from the likes of Joni Mitchell, Frente and even Springsteen, with one of the songs off her EP WRITE listed as a finalist for the 2011 Queensland Music Awards.
The EP launch of WRITE will be supported by 2010 fRETfEST finalist singer songwriter Blaise Asnicar, who at 16 years of age is impressing audiences with his poetic songs and passionate delivery.
The launch of WRITE is a FREE event and is open to all ages. Copies of the EP will be available to purchase on the day.
