ROLL UP! ROLL UP! ROLL UP! Have you seen The Happiest Show on Earth...

posted Friday, 1 Jul

Patch Theatre Company specializes in creating beautiful and inspiring theatre for 4-8 year old children and their families.

The Happiest Show on Earth is Patch Theatre Company’s 100th new work. It was work-shopped at the Kennedy Centre in Washington in 2008 and had its premiere season in Adelaide in 2009. Since then, the show has undergone significant development and refinement for its 2011 national tour of 21 venues around Australia, which kicks off with a six performance holiday season at the Odeon Theatre.

In this engaging, vaudevillian comedy for the whole family, Professor Smith shares the secrets of his little blue bottle of magic, whilst entertaining his audience with the amazing acts of circus, music and illusion, including the Fabulous Flea Circus and a Lighter-than-Air Levitation Act that goes embarrassingly wrong. Professor Smith’s sister, Dorrie and a ventriloquist doll named Danny, save the day.

Brian Godfrey in the Adelaide Theatre Guide writes,

This production, if tested on its own "happ-o-meter", would break it – and although aimed at 4-8 year olds, it managed to enthral this reviewer's 20 month old grandson!'

Artistic Director, Dave Brown says,

“Children love the show because it is set in a magical world of circus and illusion and yet it deals with feelings and situations that they can strongly identify with. It’s a show where children experience the emotions that are evoked when one sibling won’t allow another sibling a fair go.”

Although made for 4-8 year olds, the The Happiest Show on Earth has great appeal for those who remember the rich theatre traditions of music hall, vaudeville and circus.

“There’s something for everyone, “ Brown says.
