More about the publication...

Think it’s a strange title? Tony Mott explains that

“that’s exactly what it had become to me. In my youth I was, in fact, a trainspotter (and I’m not embarrassed about it). The object being to collect as many locomotives’ numbers as possible and, apart from Rock’N’Roll photography being a career, it is very much a quest to collect as many photos of rock stars as I can. I still get a thrill when I am photographing a new artist, and am not happy til I’ve got what I consider a great shot.

I’ve been chasing this collection of what I consider my best photographs, picked from different points of view, a combination of capturing the essence of the artist and photographic qualities.”

Rock’N’Roll Photography Is The New Trainspotting by Tony Mott was released in March 2011

RRP: AU$49.99

Lowdown Editor Jane Gronow says, "It really is a yummy book, I hope noone enters the competition so I can take it home and look at it forever!"

Things that i like: Photography + Rockenroll + Live Music = Awesome Squared. And it seems that this square of awesome has taken tangible form in this book. It would seriously be ace to be able to start having my own collection of photography/art books, but being a poor visual art student doesn't help my case. I have a sore back from lugging books back & forth from the library, & an empty book case that is full of potential. In return I can provide high 5's, good karma banditry, bad magic tricks and the knowledge that you are upping my knowledge on art, culture & the cool kids of rock while reliving some of my art-ache. Kudos, glitter and hearts. Shaylee

OH MY GOD!! This is the stuff that dreams are made of.. This book brings back so many memories of gigs that Ive been to, bands that Ive loved and and shows the beauty of the gigs that I have missed out on. If I won this book I would be the happiest fan on earth, good on you lowdown for offering up such a fantastic prize.

I was rapt to see this competition announced! Not only am I aged, fanatical rocker (circa mid 1960's to present day), but Trainspotting was a truely cathartic film for me. It changed the way I viewed film making and created a new "grunge" genre. So I love the title.I heard Tony Mott interviewed and loved listening to his story.
I have one book that sits on my coffee table all the time and intrigues guests. The book is "The Half" by photographer Simon Annand which, like Tony's book, is a compilation of his life's work and features photos of famous actors just before they go on stage. Tony Mott's beautiful book would be a perfect companion for "The Half". I can already imagine it sitting there on my coffee table as I write. Fingers crossed. Robyn Kay

I would LOVE to win this book as it marries two of my absolute passions - photography and live music! Getting the "backstage pass" to Australia's magnificent live music scene would be amazing.

mmmm let me see why would i like this book......i don't collect trains, but i love music ( even the music of rod stewart especially in the early days) i love images, these are what drive me artistically.
spending some time with the Rolling Stones, albeit through a book , is a great way to spend a weekend. and i here The Beastie Boys were Tony Mott's least favourite but lucky for them i will continue to buy their music.

I have been itching to get a copy since hearing Richard Fidler's interview with Tony Mott last year. Each picture tells a story and I would just love to see and celebrate Tony's work .
