“Most theatre companies aim to give us a good night out. Version 1.0 goes the
extra mile: it entertains, informs and then contributes to the betterment of our
democracy.” The Sun Herald
version 1.0’s THIS KIND OF RUCKUS is an alcohol-fuelled, techno-beat driven performance about sexual violence in contemporary culture by the acclaimed Sydney theatre company. It’s version 1.0’s first-ever visit to Adelaide, and the show has been selected as part of the prestigious Spotlight program at the Australian Performing Arts Market.
Accompanied by stunning video imagery, version 1.0’s THIS KIND OF RUCKUS explores the forming and wrecking of relationships, patterns of control, and cycles of abuse. Relationship counseling sessions, dance floor seductions and personal tales of sexual violence, are blended with commentary on recent high-profile sexual assault scandals involving rugby league players to create a confronting, unsettling and deeply compelling performance.
Of the Sydney world premiere season in September 2009, the Sydney Morning Herald wrote:
“the company’s integration of physical performance with multimedia elements is exceptional, their excavation of the humorous within the deeply serious remains provocative. Recommended.”
Described as “a work of peculiar beauty” by RealTime, and “poignant and unsettling” by The Daily Telegraph, version 1.0’s THIS KIND OF RUCKUS promises to be the must-see event of the 2010 Adelaide Fringe Festival.
