The Young Company (TYC) is Cairn's very own theatre company for children and young people offering workshops that will give the kids a head start in their theatre careers.
For Term 4, TYC have devised four workshops for children aged 5 to 12 aimed at developing and furthering knowledge and experience in theatre, musicals and performance.
The first workshop, beginning Monday 4 October is the TYC Drama Club. Designed for kids aged 5 to 12, this ten-week program will provide a great range of theatre activities and exercises that aim to provide children and young people with a taste of theatre while also improving their self-confidence, idea-generation, communication and presentation skills.
The second workshop beginning Saturday 9 October is the TYC Acting Troupe. This nine-week workshop will teach kids, 12 years and over, how to develop their own acting and performance skills by devising and staging their own one act play.
The next workshop beginning Saturday 29 November is TYC Musical Madness. Musical Madness is a nine-week program for children 8 years and over which allows them to come together and explore their favourite musicals through singing, dancing and acting. In this workshop participants will develop their performance skills through acting, singing and dancing as they bring to life their favourite scenes from their favourite musicals.
The final workshop, Lights, Camera, Action! is a nine-week program for young people 12 years and over beginning Saturday 9 October. Participants will have the opportunity to rise to the challenge and discover how to produce and act in their own film for the big screen! This workshop will explore the practical skills necessary to devise your own characters and perform them for the camera using a Green Screen. At the end of the program they will also get the chance to see their work on the big screen for parents and friends (PS: popcorn is a must).
