Barking Gecko creates extraordinary theatre to ignite young imaginations. This October school holidays we present Aesop and His Fables, especially designed for 5-12 yo and their families.
Aesop and His Fables
Direct from a sell out season in Athens is Lion’s Theatre Company with the ancient story of Aesop and His Fables. There’s only one problem…. Lion, the star of the show, is nowhere to be seen and the understudy is a fuzzy mouse with a nasty case of stage fright! A play about friendship, adventure and what it means to be a true hero!
This play is designed to engage children in the art of storytelling, as a way to entertain, record our history and “teach people about people” (Aesop)

“I bring my children to the theatre to inspire creativity and imagination, to feel involved in a more active way in the story rather than passive viewing of TV. It’s a great way for a family of multi aged children to do something enjoyable and meaningful together.” - Patron July 2010
Saturday 12 Feb – Saturday 9 April 2011
Starting 12th February 2011, Barking Gecko Theatre Company introduces its BGTC Workshop program for children and young people aged between 7 and 18 years at the Subiaco Arts Centre. BGTC Workshops are designed to ignite creativity and unlock the imagination of Perth’s artistic youth.
Each week during school term, budding artists will work with industry trained tutors and guest industry practitioners to accelerate their learning in all areas of the performing arts. BGTC Workshops connect participants directly to people working in the performing arts industry and provide sneak peaks into the development of new works at Barking Gecko Theatre Company.
BGTC Workshops are a supportive environment where young people can explore valuable tools such as role play and body language to encourage creative thinking, problem solving and communication skills.
BGTC Workshops are taught by skilled industry tutors who aim to make time spent at Barking Gecko a fun, rich and rewarding experience for all participants.
There are three workshops available:
* Acting Up for 7 – 10 year olds – Stimulate imagination and build confidence. This is a great step into the world of performing arts.
