Carclew Youth Arts has been successful in securing further funding to extend the EnCompass Program into 2011. Carclew is giving up to 13 young South Australians the opportunity to break into the arts industry through a new training initiative, EnCompass: a training program for working in arts administration.
Program participants, will gain a Certificate III in Arts Administration, achieved through TAFE studies, and will have the opportunity to undertake a unique on-the-job volunteer work experience placement in arts organisations between June – December 2011.

Carclew Youth Arts is dedicated to bringing high quality arts experiences to all young South Australians and its remote outreach projects are unique and highly successful examples of arts and cultural practice interweaving to build a positive future for young people living in remote areas.
Carclew is committed to ensuring that its programs are responsive and accessible to those least likely to participate due to geographic location, socio-economic circumstances or disability. Carclew also aims to create tangible improvements in the quality of life of young South Australians by developing artistic projects which consider social need.
Delivered by teams of highly skilled and experienced arts practitioners, Carclew’s remote outreach projects are designed around cultural appropriateness and incorporate realistic and relevant goals.
Carclew Youth Arts’ Public Art Program involves artists aged 26 and under in a series of workshops, forums and masterclasses where they engage in public and street art experiments.
With support from Carclew’s Breeding Ground program of masterclasses, national and international artists who create work for the public arena are regularly invited to Adelaide to inspire and provoke local practitioners, stimulate critical debate and support the exploration of art-forms in relation to working in the public realm.
Cargo is a Carclew Youth Arts Artists In Schools residency program specifically for schools and communities in Roxby Downs, Whyalla, Pt Augusta and Pt Pirie. Cargo is generously supported by BHP Billiton.
Since its inception in 2007, Cargo has delivered one-week workshops, annually in each of the four communities. In the past four years, Cargo workshops have reached over 25 schools and offered workshop experiences to over 2,000 primary and secondary students.
Through Cargo Carclew aims to broaden the arts experiences of Middle Years students through engagement with professional artists, across a range of quality art forms. Priority is given to disadvantaged schools.
Cargo utilizes experienced and emerging artists who aim to achieve fresh approaches to the arts while building on existing arts experiences available in schools and local communities.
Carclew welcomes input from teachers and school communities in program planning.

Carclew Youth Arts supports work experience placements for students aged 15-18 as part of their school program. Carclew can provide a week-long placement that consists of a combination of observation and hands-on experiences.
If the student has chosen a specific area they would like to gain work experience in, they will be given their tasks by the program manager of that area and work closely with that team. Otherwise they will experience a range of activities and projects across the organisation. Each student’s experience at Carclew will be different depending on programming at that time. Each placement is arranged through discussion and negotiation and we welcome enquiries.
Students will be required to work normal business hours between 9.00am and 5.00pm, however working hours will depend on program area schedules and attendance outside of those times may be part of the opportunity available.
Off The Couch (OTC) is a music program created especially to provide industry exposure and experience for bands, musicians and budding event managers.
Bands have the opportunity to play in professional gigs in some of Adelaide’s hottest venues. Many well-known SA bands played their first public gigs at an OTC show. This is an invaluable opportunity for young bands to gain the exposure to propel them forward in the music industry.
The Off The Couch team will learn the tricks of the trade from music and events industry professionals in weekly training sessions. Here they will learn to program, promote and produce gigs and will assist with the event management of six Off The Couch live music shows.
OTC engages music lovers on many levels – as event coordinators, promoters, stage managers, musicians and audiences.
