WILFRID GORDON MCDONALD PARTRIDGE: THE STAGE SHOW
A touching play for young and old exploring themes of memory loss and the value of old people in our community.
Presented by Corrugated Iron Youth Arts, Alzheimer’s Australia NT and the Lynx Project, Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge is a touching new stage show coming to the Darwin Entertainment Centre this July 29 and 30.
The play is an adaptation of the delightful story by much-loved children’s author Mem Fox and illustrator Julie Vivas, which follows the journey of Wilfrid, a small boy who lives next door to an old peoples home and goes on a journey in search of the lost memories of his favourite neighbour, 96-year-old Miss Nancy.
Performed by seasoned local actors and a talented young newcomer as Wilfrid, the show will be sure to have children laughing and adults crying as they journey with Wilfrid on his search to understand what a memory means to the people around him.
"[A memory is] something that makes you cry my boy, something that makes you cry,” says Wilfrid’s neighbour old Mr Trippett.
The production is part of a larger community project being run by Corrugated Iron, Alzheimer’s NT and the Lynx Project which raises awareness about dementia and uses theatre and the arts to help children understand more about the value of older people in our community, especially those living with memory loss.
Alongside the show, there will be activities for children which link in with school social studies curriculum and can prompt discussion about memories and recall, about helping others, and about friendship, particularly with elders.
Residents of three local aged care facilities will also have the opportunity to join in theatre and improvisation workshops run by actors from the production, providing an opportunity for them to engage, communicate and share their own life experiences and memories.
