Stirring the Imagination

Masterclass in Sensorial Theatre

15 - 16 March 2011

Jigsaw Theatre Company and Courthouse Arts present as part of the upcoming season of Master & Servant, a Masterclass in Sensorial Theatre by Ben Laden (Jigsaw Theatre Artistic Directorate Member and Artistic Director of Courthouse Arts)
After working with the Colombian Sensorial Theatre company ‘El Teatro de los Sentidos’ throughout the 1990’s in Europe, Ben then returned to Australia to establish his own production company ‘The Eater Presents’, which produced a series of large-scale installation performances for festival from 2001-2004.
The workshop, to be held over two days, will examine the techniques used to create his 2010 production Master & Servant.
Sensorial Theatre aims to produce an experience that invokes not only sight and sound, but all the senses. Over the past 10 years Ben has perfected these techniques, which involve the sophisticated use of scent, physical interactive performance and installation building to create extraordinary events that change the lives of those attending.

Past Work - Walk the Fence

25 February - 6 March 2010

Rachel is very, very angry! So angry she has to keep moving or she’ll just explode!

Whilst playing, her street magically comes to life, and she meets a telegraph pole on sprung stilts, a letter box, a magpie on rollerblades and a brick wall. They provoke, beguile, question and help Rachel to understand how to cope when you feel overwhelmed by your feelings.

Come sit in Rachel’s street. This playful cross-artform production features a stunning installation set design by Kaoru Alfonso which the audience sits inside and a captivating musical score by singer/songwriter Melanie Robinson. Co-created & directed by Kate Shearer & Felicity Bott.

Two of Australia’s boldest performers Keira Mason-Hill and Chris Palframan leap, fly and dance in this high energy, uplifting production for 4 - 10 year olds.

Due to its unique staging, there are only limited seats so book your school now!

“An education in theatre of the best kind for young children who responded with no hesitation to the subtle moods and well as plot.” The Canberra Times 2009

Past Work - Too Hot To Handle

28 September – 2 October 2010

Written by acclaimed performer Peter J Casey, Too Hot To Handle is a high energy musical about climate change for 8 to 12 year olds, that uses humour and music to counteract the apocalyptic scenarios often featured in the media.

Somewhere in the not-too-distant future we meet Tess and Jess. They need more than ‘slip slop slap’ for the outside world. On their journey to discover what happened to the weather, they encounter an Ad Executive spinning a new jingle, Captain Delete and his trusty companion Backspace Boy who fight the forces of fossil fuels and the foolish Mr Quick and Mr Fix.

Too Hot to Handle is a hilarious and at times biting satirical production with toe tapping tunes designed to explore global warming, consumerism and responsibility, to inspire the next generation to make a difference.
