Two fresh and inventive explorations of what makes us unique and gives us our own very particular Australian identity.
Tasdance presents the work of two very different artists: Frances Rings, a leading indigenous choreographer whose reputation was earned during her work with Bangarra; and Anton, from a European background whose trademark is his highly energised dance works.

Tasdance offers a broad range of stimulating workshop options that can be specially tailored to suit the individual needs of your students, school and staff.
Workshops can be from one hour to a one week residency with a variety of different outcomes including performances.
We also offer professional development sessions for teachers, both with and without dance experience.

Contemporary, choreographic and Street Dance classes, the latter featuring professional dancer and teacher Joel Corpuz (NSW) who offers fresh and funky technique classes incorporating ‘old skool’ and video clip inspired moves.
The popular Aurora-Tasdance Summer School is on at the Tasdance studios 197 Wellington St, Launceston from February 1-6 with experienced teachers who have worked as professionals in the industry which gives them a unique insight into the way they work with students. Street Jam Funk classes will be taught by professional dancer and teacher Joel Corpuz (NSW). Tasdance ensemble members Trisha Dunn and Malcolm McMillan take contemporary technique classes plus choreographic workshops and all classes take place in a fun and supportive environment. Trisha and Malcolm bring a wealth of experience as professional dancers and as choreographers.
Joel’s dancing career began in Brisbane at the age of 17, where he won Street Jam Funk competitions in night clubs with a Brisbane group called Buddy Jam Crew. With another crew called Urban Rhythm Joel performed in Myer stores, dancing on the catwalks, wearing the latest street fashions. Joel’s next project was a performance in MegaJam, an instructional hip-hop video. At the age of 21 he began tertiary dance training at QUT. He has taught Street Jam Funk/Hip-Hop at Tiaki and V-Club gyms in Sydney and also for a year while pursuing his dance career with Tasdance in 2002. Joel has performed with Expressions Dance Company, World Dance Company, Sydney Dance Company, Chunky Move, Stan Wont Dance/Physical Dance Theatre Company, English National Opera, and with the Australian Cast of the Lion King.

Performance by 16 secondary students under the guidance of choreographers Sarah Fiddaman and Malcolm Mcmillan exploring the diverse range of the meaning of the word Pulse.
The performance tours the state, from April 26 to April 30 featuring the talents of selected young dancers who with Sarah and Malcolm will explore the diverse range of the meaning of the word Pulse. This show is appropriate for students of all ages. Book in early for both the workshops and performances as this is normally a sell out!

The project began 13 years ago, helping develop the technical skills and knowledge of secondary students and teachers who want to know more about contemporary dance practice.
Workshops: Pulse will begin with special school workshops conducted throughout the state from March 1-26 with dancer/choreographers Sarah Fiddaman and Malcolm McMillan. Workshops are suited for grades 8-12. Participants in the workshop series, who are in grade 10 or above, are then invited to audition for a place in the performance company.

HEART MATTERS
In an iconic line-up of Tasmanian creative energies, Tasdance presents new dance works by two of Australia's leading choreographers: Forty Miles - A River of Dreams by Graeme Murphy and Chrissie Parrott's work Racing Heart. Heart Matters premieres a new musical commission by Constantine Koukias (Artistic Director of IHOS Opera) and Carl Vine's Tribe's Desire, rearranged especially for this project and performed live by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.
Graeme Murphy explores nature's ability to stir the soul and free the poetic forces locked within our hearts. Chrissie Parrott's work dwells in the realm of relationships, mapping the physical responses to the ever-changing stages of love.

Tasdance are featuring the talents of Etienne Khoo who travels to Tasmania bringing new moves to Street Jam Funk/Hip Hop classes for ages 8-adult.
Etienne has a diverse career working in all facets of the entertainment industry, choreographing for So You think You Can Dance and performing in TV shows and at high profile events. When he is not performing, Etienne is a teacher at the Ballarat College of Art and Jason Coleman's "Ministry Of Dance" as well as being Artistic Director of up and coming new age hip hop company “Dance Virus Production”.
Plus they are offering the ever-popular contemporary technique classes with the amazing Trisha Dunn - long time Tasdance ensemble member.
