Adelaide City Council and Carclew Youth Arts are offering the opportunity for artists, designers, animators, photographers, new media artists and visual artists to receive a $1,000 commission to create new work for the Rundle Lantern.

In addition to this, one of the completed commissions will also receive an iPad. People aged 16-26 years interested in creating a digital media artwork for the Rundle Lantern are welcome to apply, with 5 being selected to create new works for this prominant canvas.

Constructed from 748 square panels, the Lantern has 17,952 computer controlled LEDs which can create a rainbow of up to 16 million colours. The Lantern is 9 levels high and runs from dusk to midnight every evening.

The commission will commence with a forum led by Oliver Boermans, one of the original designers of the Rundle Lantern, Ante Juricin, Adelaide City Council’s Rundle Lantern insider and Lachlan Tetlow-Stuart, new media creative director. Over a three-week period participants will develop artworks that will then have the opportunity to be exhibited on this innovative screen. The artworks are expected to be shown in December 2010.

Download an application form and get it in by September 23, 2010 to see your name (well, okay, artwork) up in lights.
