When is the truth too shocking to look at?

In 1915 most young men in Australia died at Gallipoli. We all know that, we’ve heard the story and seen the countless re-enactments.

In 2010 most young men in Australia die in high-speed car crashes. Tasmania has the highest road death toll per capita in the country. Maybe we know that too, but it’s just another statistic, isn’t it?

Bronwyn Purvis and Telen Rodwell’s powerful documentary Drive, was created with and about a group of young North West Tasmanian men. The brutal truth of that statistic both grabs you by the heart and slams you right in the face, to illuminate the underbelly of this tragedy in a way I have not experienced before.
